Aanrader!!

This is such a fun quilt to make! Highly recommended! There are a lot of different techniques in it: application, embroidery, patching. And the block is getter more beautiful and more cosy with every stitch you make. There are so many fun things to obtain these days to make it even more enjoyable than it already is like all sorts of buttons or the small bells which I used to hang on the collars of the reindeer. Here a few pictures:

For experienced quilters among us, this is obviously all a piece of cake and all very well known, but i come accross new things every time and all very nice!

Okay… here is a picture of the whole block 1

And neatly pressed this time, because such a wrinkled block as in my previous post is of course no way to show it hahaha.

Meanwhile, the weekend is nearly over and time has flown again! This evening we are going to watch Fringe on television, and meanwhile I continue to embroider the red cross-border of block 2. The weather was fortunately much refurbished and there are still a few nice sunny days to com so everyone a great week!

Mystery block 4

Block 4 of the MQ is down! That means I now have 1 / 3 of the quilt finished! Frankly I'm not completely satisfied with the block because a block of the birdies is not quite right, it’s a bit awry. Of course I can start over, but I currently do not feel like it. Maybe some time later and maybe not, but ... it is after all a country quilt, and it does not have to be exactly right hihihi. (good excuse huh)

You see it? It's crooked. And perhaps I had better get a moment to iron it for the picture  *ahem *.

The package for block 5 is already waiting and I'm curious how that will go.Veronique Requena (the creator and maker of the first Mystery Quilt) sewed in that block the brown Labrador Jules. Jules unfortunately already deceased, but he stays forever as a reminder in the MQ.

The brown Labrador which I’m going to sew myself on my block, will be called Sarah, of course! And she will be proud to be in it I think. Jules was always at Véronique’s feet while quilting,Sarah is usually on my feet when I am busy with my fabric and needle.

A few more weeks then it’s her birthday ... she will be 8 years old already! It is that you can see the gray hairs, but otherwise you would not say though. Last week she was jumping and playing outside and a man who came along said: "Well that's certainly still a youngster!" Hahaha, young inside indeed!

smeekbede

IMG_0313

Actually, I wanted to complete block 4 of Mystery Quilt before starting with the first block of Scandinavian Christmas, but with all the fun fabrics in the house, I could not wait! They just yelled at me: "take me... cut me..." and yeah, that petition I could not resist.

By the way... on Sunday June 5th it suddenly occurred to me that I actually wanted to go to the quilt exposition at Castle Cannenburgh in Vaassen. But it was 2pm already and it should close at 5pm. "Come on, get in the car," Ton said. No sooner said than done and one hour later we were walking around among the nice cozy tents. And guess what? I saw suddenly in the stand of Jookies Scandinavian Christmas quilt hanging on the wall!Well I hadn’t seen this quilt in real life, so now I was quite happy that we drove to Vaassen. The background fabric she had used, I actually thought was nicer than the material I had purchased before, so I bought it. It is a beautiful beige / gray linen.

Yet it was still quite a puzzle to embroider the edge in the right way. The snowflakes I could just trace on the light fabric with a pen with washable ink, but on the linen I could not. Because the linen got thicker and thinner wires, I now made the crosses three threads wide and 2 wires high so that they are still have the good shape. The size of the border I had to change and therefore the corners are not the way they are supposed to be. But still ... I'm pretty happy.Only one side to go and the first block is ready to be appliquéd.

The dark red and dark brown fabric and the backing fabric of the embroidered snowflake are all from the series "Winter Berry Lane by Red Rooster and I think it's wonderful! Such beautiful colors!
Nevertheless I find a bit of bright red fabric also belong in it, because of course it is a Christmas quilt.

Now I’m going to continue… maybe I can get the last side of the border done before dinner! I have so much fun with it!!

fijn weekend allemaal! have a nice weekend!

Plannen

One project is not even ready and I'm already planning for another. But yes, it's also so much fun huh? And of course I have an excuse ... the new quilt that I want to make is for Christmas so I must start now to finish it in time. You probably all know it... it is "Scandinavian Christmas" by Lynette Anderson.

This quilt I have seen on many blogs and in many shops and every time I love it sooo much so finally I decided I’m going to make it. The pattern I already have and this week I bought some fabrics. The background fabric and some other fabrics I bought at De Quilthoeve, the new store of Wendy and Ingrid. It was a long drive, but then you have something!
I also bought a whole pile of fabrics from
fabricshack in America. What a great choice! Be warned ... once you start looking, looking will become buying soon! ;-)
Within one week the package was already on the mat from America. Look, this was all in it

As you can see I really went for the Scandinavian Christmas colors. But I could not resist buying this cute panel:

Actually I thought that it would be not so big (I had not looked at the dimensions) and that I could make a nice little quilt from it to hang on my wall with Christmas. Once in my hands it turned out to be pretty big so now I’m not sure what to do... use the 4 blocks together with other fabric to make a large Christmas quilt, or make 4 seperate wallhangings so I can give, for example, my mother in law one as a Christmas present. Well fortunately I have plenty to do so I do not have to decide right away hahaha.

Meanwhile, I finished block 3 of the MQ. I’m happy it’s done because I did not like this block very much. Look, this is it:

But it's become fun, huh? Block 4 also coming along well so you will see it appear here soon.

Do you have something nice done on Ascension? Ton and I had to be in Woerden, and that lies close by Oudewater so we drove there and had a cup of coffee ... in the sun on a terrace! For those who have never been to Oudewater... definitely go! What a beautiful old place!
You can also go to watch the ‘Heksenwaag’ where in earlier days women suspected of being a witch were weighed on. Since witches should be very light to stay in the air on their brooms, it was said you that you could recognize them at their weight.
There is also a bust of ‘Swiebertje’ (this is the name of a character who played in a childrens serie in earlier days), because it seems that many of the episodes of that serie where filmed in Oudewater.

At home we sit comfortably in the garden because it was of course great weather. And the garden looks beautiful… all that green! Watch this gate we have bought a few weeks ago. It has no function other than to be beautiful.

Een heel fijn zonnig weekend allemaal!
